Public Entity – Self-Insurance Specialists
All eyes are on you. We know that you have high expectations when it comes to managing your risk, budgets, and professional vendor relationships. Your responsibilities demand the best risk retention decision possible while keeping costs under control. With a long history of serving the Public Sector, Brown & Brown’s Public Sector Practice provides unprecedented market expertise and self-insured services tailored to your needs.
Our customers come first and it shows in our proud record of 98% customer retention! Several of our public entity customer relationships span 50 years or more and for good reason, the Brown & Brown Public Entity Team is regarded as the best when it comes to minimizing our clients overall cost of risk because of our unprecedented expertise and specialization.
We know that risk management does not stop with the placement of insurance programs, it is just the beginning. We have assembled an elite team of professional insurance and risk management professionals ready to provide you the service you deserve.
You retain difficult risk; law enforcement, emergency services, first responders and firefighters, educational dynamics, public official liability, special events, and land use issues all have their challenges. We understand these issues and offer creative risk finance solutions for our self-insured customers.
In addition, your budget is constantly under pressure as lower tax revenues impact your ability to provide services. Tort immunities continue to erode, presumptive causation statutes cause you grief, and the upward pressure on your overall “cost of risk” increases.
To help you manage lower funding levels and increased exposure we offer the following services:
• Alternative risk and captive design consulting
• Risk purchasing group consulting and formation
• Reinsurance and/or excess risk placement specialists
• GASB 10 compliant actuarial and loss triangulation services
• Project oriented consulting services
• Departmental cost allocation system design
• Manuscripted public sector insurance policies and programs
• National bench-marking metrics
Simply put, we protect your revenue by helping you minimize your cost of risk.
Brown & Brown’s Risk University is a reflection of that commitment to your organization. Risk University is an important dimension to our long list of customer support services and distinguishes Brown & Brown from every other insurance agency in the area. This groundbreaking approach helps both experienced risk managers and those new to the public risk management profession better understand the risk landscape and respond appropriately. Risk University is an educational platform that relies on classroom seminars aimed at practical, effective advice for minimizing an entity’s overall “cost of risk” using national metrics and best practices.
The Brown & Brown Public Entity Team tailors your insurance and risk management program services to complement your needs. For each of our clients we provide a core group of professionals who provide insight in their respective areas, backed by day-today client services, technical support personnel and consulting resources. This core team and your lead executive will develop an annual plan with defined goals and objectives.
To supplement our strong insurance industry experience, several of our public sector team members are prior public sector employees.
This combination provides a unique skill set to our clients:
• Public Sector Risk Manager with 25 years experience
• Law enforcement and drug enforcement officer
• Fire Department and first responder crew member
• Claims Manager for national operations of a major P&C carrier

This core team of professionals will guide you through an annual service plan based on your needs and objectives.
